John Penn focuses his practice on bankruptcy and workouts. John Penn has represented creditors, creditors groups, and creditors committees in many major bankruptcy restructurings and insolvency cases. John is a member of the American College of Bankruptcy and was the president of the American Bankruptcy Institute from 2000 to 2006. John is certified as a lawyer for business bankruptcy by the American Board of Legal Specialization and the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
John helped clients in a wide variety of industries in which he worked, including financial services, energy, energy, furniture, real estate, and non-profit organizations. John has represented clients in bankruptcy litigation, including defenses against attempts to recover fraudulent transfers and preferential transfers, and subordination to other creditors. Some clients in that practice compounded their claims for substantial discounts, including cost-of-defense settlements.
John provides frequent commentaries to national media on current legal issues and writes articles on important topics such as new disclosure requirements for bankruptcy attorneys, fraudulent transfers in the Chrysler bankruptcy and credit bidding. John is a member of The Best Lawyers in America and serves on the Executive Board of the Longhorn Council Boy Scouts of America. In addition, John was a member of the American College of Bankruptcy Foundation and was the chairman of its national committee.
