About Victoria M. Almeida
Victoria is the firm's Co-Chair of the Government Relations Practice Group. Victoria is a distinguished and highly awarded attorney who has achieved notable success in high-stakes, precedent-setting cases. She provides responsive, civil, and innovative counsel to her clients in litigation, health care, governmental relations, and white-collar criminal defense. She works to alleviate her clients' concerns while advancing their business objectives by remaining accessible, responding quickly to pressing problems, and avoiding cookie-cutter solutions.
Notably, she successfully challenged a Rhode Island law requiring employers to provide health insurance to workers' compensation recipients. The precedent-setting decision, which was upheld by the United States Supreme Court, overturned a law that had been regarded as one of the most contentious and costly for Rhode Island businesses.
Victoria's professional and civic service also includes important positions such as: President of the Rhode Island Bar Association; the first woman in Rhode Island history to be appointed Executive Counsel to a governor; Vice Chairperson for the Rhode Island Parole Board for 20 years; and Chairperson of the R.I. Health Services Council, the advisory board to the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health that decides matters involving new health care equipment, new institutional health services, and the licensing of health care facilities. The Health Services Council recently approved the sale of Landmark Medical Center, a 214-bed hospital in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to Prime Healthcare Services.
