About A Business Law Firm LLC
At first glance, one might think what A Business Law Firm does is self-evident. However, founding partner Thomas Belenchia says the Spartanburg-based law firm’s services extend far beyond the practice of business law. Indeed, the fact that the firm is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year underscores that very point. “Our business is built on relationships,” Belenchia said. “We are celebrating 25 years, thanks to our talented staff, the trust we have earned, as well as the relationships built with our clients, our valuable network of allies, and the Upstate Business Community.”
Interestingly, though Belenchia has practiced 25 years, he notes that he didn’t attend Emory Law School with the intent to practice law. In fact, law wasn’t his first career – he was a US Marine and a Mississippi Delta cotton and rice farmer before taking his career in a new direction. “I went to law school because I wanted the legal knowledge to enhance my business skills,” he said. “I wasn’t actually planning to practice law.” Belenchia got out of law school and worked with his wife, an established International Corporate Real Estate Specialist, before eventually taking the S.C. and N.C. Bar Exams. “I started with a couple of corporate clients, just helping them address business issues. I found that I enjoy helping people solve complex problems. I never knew of the personal reward that comes from having the tools to help others solve business problems.”
Shortly after he discovered this new sense of direction, Belenchia founded A Business Law Firm, in 1994. The firm has significantly grown, practicing in both North and South Carolina. Belenchia has recently promoted two associates to Partner. Chelsea Rikard and Lauren Ward, are committed to growth and continuation of the firm’s history of excellence in service. “Our focus is working with businesses, business owners, and individuals,” he said. “We help with everything from creating the business, helping with daily operations, representing the business in a law suit, buying or selling a business, and even estate and succession planning; all aspects. We go full circle with the life cycle of the business.” Many law firms help a client through one particular matter, but A Business Law Firm is different, they enjoy working with entrepreneurial minded individuals who have a vision for growth in their business. Their focus is to help business owners identify and reach their maximum business and life goals. The client base A Business Law Firm built by referrals, includes local business owners from over 50 countries.
The legal team at A Business Law Firm is committed to the community. They serve on governmental and non-profit boards, provide pro bono legal aide, speak at civic and senior centers, mentor new entrepreneurs, and coach high school students in Mock Trial. By their mission, “Being a lawyer and owning a law firm, is about more than helping people within the realm of the law, it’s also about contributing to the needs of the greater community.” A Business Law Firm strives to be unique, and provide a full scope of service to their clients. This year marks the 25th year the firm has been serving the Upstate. Belenchia states, “I am proud of relationships created in the last 25 years and look forward to the next 25.”
