About Michael J. Gearin
Michael Gearin's practice is focused on insolvency, workouts, and commercial reorganizations. His practice is broad, encompassing insolvency and creditors' rights transactional, litigation, and other advice. In Chapter 11 cases, he represents debtors, creditors' committees, secured creditors, purchasers, and trustees. He has experience in real estate workouts and bankruptcies, as well as representing secured creditors, purchasers, and receivers in state law receivership proceedings. He has extensive experience resolving Ponzi schemes using the Chapter 11 plan confirmation process. He has extensive experience representing pension interests in municipal bankruptcy cases. In Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, he has represented both debtors and purchasers in complex asset sales transactions.
Michael is a past chair of the Seattle-King County Bar Association's Bankruptcy Section, a panel mediator in the mediation program of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington, and a frequent speaker at professional seminars on municipal bankruptcy, Chapter 11 plan confirmation, Ponzi cases in bankruptcy, and other bankruptcy issues.
